Ayurveda For Your Natuaral Remedies
Ayurvedic Medicine (also known as Ayurveda) is a system of medicine that originated in India more than 5000-years years ago and is practiced around the World today. Western medicine has now classified Ayurveda as a complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) so it can be used along with standard Western medicines and is therefore now recognised as a genuine homeopathy option – an option using herbal treatments for Good Health and Wellbeing.
Ayurveda combines two Sanskrit words: ayur, which means life, and veda, which means science or knowledge. Ayurveda means “the science of life.”
Ayurveda is a total medical system that integrates and balances the body, mind and spirit and therefore it is often referred to as a “holistic” approach to Good Health and Wellbeing.
The primary aim of Ayurvedic medicine is to cleanse your body of substances that can cause disease with the aim to re-establish the harmony and balance necessary for your optimal health.
The remedies use herbal extracts for specific health problems such as allergy relief, anti-aging, antioxidants, attention deficiency, beauty, blood pressure, blood sugar, body detoxification, cardiovascular health, cholesterol, colon, digestion, female sexuality, fertility, fitness, flexibility, hair care, immune system, intellect enrichment, joint health (including arthritis and gout), liver, longevity, male sexuality, memory enhancement, muscle growth, nail care, prostate care, relaxation and sleep, skin care, strength enhancement, stress relief and weight loss.
The following are commonly used herbs:
The spice turmeric has been used for various diseases and conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, and wound healing.
An extract from the resin from a tropical shrub (Commiphora mukul, or guggul) has been used for a variety of illnesses. In more recent years, there has been interest in its use to lower cholesterol.
It has been found that depression and mental stress can be treated using the essential oil extracted from Holy Basil.
For as long as history can record Ayurveda has been the main system of health care in India. With up to 70 percent of India’s population lives in rural areas there are about two-thirds of rural people who use Ayurveda and medicinal plants to meet their primary health care needs. Also most major cities have an Ayurvedic college and hospital and in India today there are more than 500,000 registered traditional medical practitioners and almost 3000 hospitals providing Ayurvedic treatment. This means over 500 million people in India rely solely on Ayurveda today. According to a recent World Health Organization report, over 80% of the world population relies on plant-based traditional medicine for their primary healthcare needs.
In Ayurveda, the distinction between food and medicine is not as clear as in Western medicine. Food and diet are important components of Ayurvedic practice, and so there is a heavy reliance on treatments based on herbs and plants, oils (such as sesame oil), common spices (such as turmeric), and other naturally occurring substances.
Ayurveda (and variations) have been practiced for centuries in Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Tibet and now has spread to almost all parts of the World. The professional practice of Ayurvedic medicines within the United States began to grow and became more visible in the late 20th century.
Practitioners of Ayurveda have various types of training. Some are trained in the Western medical (such as medical or nursing school) and then later study Ayurveda. Some others may have training in naturopathic medicine either before or after their Ayurvedic training.
This is not a modern trend that will fizz out – this is a well established and proven method of natural treatment of ailments, but more importantly these are natural herbal supplements which treat the underlying causes of illness – not just the symptoms.
They will provide you with Good Health and Wellbeing for today, tomorrow and the allow you to enjoy the rest of your long life.
