Coaching High School Soccer: How To Achieve Self-Control
When it comes to coaching high school soccer, we must accept the fact that self-control is a choice just like confidence that players must make. In soccer coaching, it’s the relation between emotions and thoughts that concludes the self control strategies. It is a known fact that our emotional state influences our feelings and as a result of it, our performance is strengthened.
I’ll explain to you a 12 step strategy that’ll allow you to assist your players in learning the discipline of self-control. Still, it is better that players take up these steps only when they feel that it is going to be of value to them.
Besides this, they must also assume total responsibility for their actions. These are the 12 steps for your information.
1. Awareness: When coaching youth soccer, help players identify their weak points. Help your players evaluate the reasons how, where and when they lost control on the ground in their past.
2. Understanding: Help the players acknowledge the feeling that changed their thinking and caused them to lose their emotional steadiness.
3. Differences: Allow them to go back in time and recall situations where they did not lose control and where they did. Let them gauge the difference in their attitudes, emotions, and behavior.
4. Problem: When coaching high school soccer, attempt to pinpoint the problem. For instance: It may be the guilty feeling in a player that he let the whole team down due to his acts.
5. Belief: Teach the players to raise their expectations for their own selves with self-control as one of the qualities. Persuade them that they can change.
6. Reinforcement: Behavior change is accelerated by reinforcement. To make the improved skills of players as their permanent skills, you, being a coach, must reward them.
7. Goals: Set a series of small goals for players that will lead them along the road to change. Help the players understand the connection between thoughts, feelings, and actions.
8. Techniques: To maintain the confidence level, employ a set of behavioral practices. For example: If a certain situation happens, this is the course that players must follow.
9. Plan: In football coaching, help the players in learning an organized and efficient way to pursue their goals.
10. Progress: Help them being patient. Let them understand the principle of gradual improvement including the ups and downs.
11. Setbacks: Let the players understand that setbacks are there to stay. So, the best way is learn from them and become even stronger.
12. Remembrance: Last but an important point is to let the players identify the good reason behind the change. They should always be clear about what are they doing and why. What will their future be like, if they don’t change.
We all now that a soccer player who can act speedily with comfort is in a perfect performance state. In other words, the stress-free efficient performance.
This should not be taken lightly. You must include relaxation techniques in coaching high school soccer and train the players on how to control the thought process so that they can keep themselves stress-free.
