Often those experiencing panic attacks will do little to determine the source of the problem. They frequently have deep seated concerns that overpower their sensibilities and they have determined ways of coping with their problems instead of detecting the source of the issue. Some times the panic and dread that has been endured is sufficient to force out all reflective thinking and leaves the sufferer at the whim of troubled emotions.

Someone stressed from anxiety attacks may self medicate through drug abuse and it is probable that they will not look for assistance for concern of being diagnosed with mental problems. People who experience panic attacks, will frequently live in silence for several years while they manage their lives through avoidance strategies and plain stubborness. Ironically, because of their extreme fear and the way that it interrupts their life, panic attack sufferers will sometimes find it hard to direct their concentration on anything but the fear that consumes them. This lack of ability to to center on affairs other than their anxiety, robs them of the very security that they so desperately need to start out on their journey toward health.

The key for panic attack sufferers to finding help is to first build a confidence with them so that they feel secure. Since it is fear that is driving their lives, they must begin to feel that they are in a secure surrounding before they will open up and address the root cause of their anxiety. In some cases, this sense of trust will not be acquired, because the panic sufferer may be smothered by those who lambast them for their troubles or the sufferer is more prepared to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps rather than take a chance becoming vulnerable or reaching out for help.

Alas, the troubles survived by panic attack sufferers are worsened by social strictures against seeking aid for mental problems. After all, the mind is the seat of our awareness and any thing that is perceived to be awry with that seat opens the possibility that there is an mysterious problem with the individual themselves. In situations like this, those who suffer panic attacks will make whatever excuse, and will hang to any hope, that their problem is not psychological.
