Bi-Polar disorder is another moniker for manic depression. This is associated with unusual and quick switches from a good mood to a sour mood, when someone says wow, they’re bi-polar. It is just another in the many forms of depression. Sadness over an event isn’t manic depression. Manic depression is more serious than that. Bi-polar is just another stage of the general disease depression. Millions of people in the United States are diagnosed with Manic Depression every year. Typically, some type of depression yearly affects around 17 million Americans. Two thirds of those people will never seek medical attention or even a diagnosis. When the sufferer refuses aid, there can be no cure. A lot of people refuse to deal with any disease called a mental illness. Being crazy isn’t something people want associated with themselves. Brain diseases are generally quite complex. When diagnosed there is a stigma that isn’t easy to handle. But having this disease isn’t a sign of personal weakness. It does not mean that you are a nut case. It means you have an illness like any other. Now that it’s found, the process of treatment can start. The causes of all forms of depression are still being examined in the medical profession. It has been shown that depression can be brought on by many possibilities. It’s well known that consideration must be given to chemical factors, a person’s surroundings, and even their genes. It’s well known that a chemical imbalance can contribute. Stress is another major factor in depression. Life is full of stress. Issues at school, with loved ones, or just the daily grind can cause it. Depression isn’t a condition for only them. It can affect the rich and the poor. Race isn’t an issue. Color or nationality provide no protection from this illness. All the types of depression have similar symptoms. These include mood swings from happy to sad and serious personality switches. Depression can result in insomnia. The feeling of helplessness, hopelessness and Desperation. When everyday life becomes a chore, that’s depression. But the depression afflicted have hope. There is assistance. Doctors can administer drugs or herbal remedies to treat it. Psychotherapy can also help. Support groups can also be helpful for those with manic depression. Look for assistance first.
