Managing Agoraphobia Panic Attacks
Nervous of going outside the house? I’m not just referring simply about being robbed or being chased by a dog outside; I’m also referring to being scared every time you are in an open place. It may seem unbelievable but that is what you call as agoraphobia panic attacks. This particular disorder has pushed an introvert person into a whole new level.
Panic disorder with agoraphobia is basically characterized by an irrational fear of being in a public area resulting to occurrence of panic attacks. This is a very serious condition as some of these individuals do not even have the courage to go out of their homes. As a consequence, those basic roles in the community are being hampered.
There are a couple of factors why these people develop fears when being placed in a public place. The most predominant however, is a traumatic experience that happened in public. For example is the experience of someone I know, after he saw an individual being mobbed in public, he then suddenly develop the disorder. Another example would be having a firsthand experience of an accident same to what occurred on 9/11.
Many people would probably think that the best way to avoid your attacks would be locking up inside your home. This would never be a cure to the condition but could only be a temporary remedy. Doing that would just feed your worries up. Who would love spending his life inside the four walls of his house right?
The best thing you can do is to slowly go out in public places. Start by organizing some private parties with your close friends and relatives. After working on that, you now move on to the next which is going to areas where you find more people like in coffee shops or restaurants. The very goal here is to slowly keep you away from your comfort zone.
The process may not be that simple and chances you will have another panic attacks in between may also be high; nevertheless, if you will be determined in surpassing it, success is definitely within reach. Just keep in mind that every time you feel comfortable already in what you are doing; move up to the next stage. Do those until you are calm enough to say, watch a concert?
If you are ready to become more aggressive with your treatment process, you could try what we call the cognitive behavioral therapy. Connecting the events that occurred in the past to your present disorder is the aim of this therapy. Together with a physician, you will identify a crisis or an issue you thought that you are over with. Keep in mind that whatever is in our subconscious mind can still affect us and cause stress unconsciously.
Those were some of the useful tips you can do to manage agoraphobia panic attacks. It could sound hard at first (and pretty hard to perform as well); but once you get the hang of it, things will become better. You will just soon realize that you are confident walking on busy streets already without doubts that you are going to have panic attacks.
