An acne diet sounds like a wonderful idea. Who hasn’t heard that eating chocolate may make you break out. We almost all have. So instead of causing a break out, you could prevent it by watching what you eat.

Although creating a good acne diet can be very hard. This type of diet is highly personal since is is based on each individual’s response to foods. There are guidelines, but your progress will largely be trial and error. Make sure you are keeping an eye on your skin. Keep a journal. You could even take pictures a few times a week. If and when your skin clears, stick to the diet that you were using at that time.

The following guidelines can help get you started on an acne diet:

1. Up your intake of protein. Many dermatologists are under the belief that protein is connected with clearer skin. This is because protein contains an enzyme that limits the production of oil. Oily skin is very vulnerable to breakouts.

2. Don’t eat carbs. You don’t have to completely cut carbs out. But you do need to limit them so that they are only about 40 percent of your diet. This is because carbohydrates can stimulate oil production. This is why junk food has a reputation for causing acne. But actually junk food just is pretty high in carbs.

3. Drinking green tea is very good for you. If possible, drink the real stuff. Brewing the green tea is the best way to drink it. However, if you can’t stand the stuff, then natural green tea drinks will do. Green tea will limit the creation of androgen. Androgen is a hormone that will cause your skin to breakout.

4. Try to limit the amount of salt you intake. Salt usually contains iodine. This is the reason we usually call table salt “iodized salt.” For some people with acne, iodine can be a major inflammatory agent.

It is very important to watch what you eat and put on your face. You should know what ingredients are in your beauty products if you have acne. Natural and organic skin care lines are the best acne prone skin. These are the least likely to irritate your skin. You might want to start buying mineral makeup, that is if you wear makeup. Many dermatologists today believe that mineral makeup can really reduce breakouts and increase the results of your acne diet.
